50cl. SMOKED Märzen type is dark with bottom fermentation, the fresh smoky flavour is achieved with the smoke from burning beech logs, malted in the Schlenkerla-Darre before being mixed with noble hops in the beer and matured in the 700-year-old cellar under Stephansberg to become a very rich-tasting beer. -Schlenkerla is a brewery located in the city of Bamberg, in the state of Bavaria, Germany. The brewery is famous for its smoked beer, which is brewed using traditional methods with smoked malts over wood fire. -The history of Schlenkerla dates back to the 14th century when the Schlenkerla family established a brewery in Bamberg. However, the current brewery was founded in 1678. For centuries, Schlenkerla has been one of the most popular breweries in Bamberg and has expanded to include a restaurant at the same location. -One of the curiosities of the brewery is that the smoked beer is brewed using smoked malts instead of air-dried malts. The smoking process gives the beer a distinctive flavour that is different from any other beer. -Another curiosity is that the name "Schlenkerla" is derived from a local dialect and means "little lame ladder." The story behind the name is that a member of the Schlenkerla family had a lame leg and used to climb a small ladder to access the brewery. Additionally, the city of Bamberg is known for its unique beers and has a long history of brewing. In the Middle Ages, Bamberg had over 60 breweries and today remains an important centre of beer production in Germany.
